From The LinkedIn Blog: what buzzwords should you stop using

Media_httpbloglinkedi_dgbim

Looking at the average Belgian resume I'm reading these days, toppers here might be: 'team player'; while of course you 'can work autonomous', and we're all very 'result and / or target oriented'. And 'flexible'. While keeping the 'helicopter view'.

Ah, and while we're on it. If you ever drop by in one of my interviews, plz don't bother telling me spontaneously that you're 'stubborn'. No I will not ask you 5 positive & 5 negative personality traits, so it doesn't make sense. You knew anyway that this question was coming, so you found that one trait which is as such negative, but oh so easy to turn in something positive.

Neither should you try to explain that you love 'reading' so much. Or if you do, plz try to remember at least one title of a book you recently read. Failing to do so really looks weird you know.

Helpful could be to read the job description of the job you're applying for. Also, well, we do have a website, so really, it does make sense checking out what markets we're active in. Or what products we sell. Or produce. Or whatever.

Jeroen, thank you for being among LinkedIn's first million members!

Dear Jeroen,

I want to personally thank you because you were one of LinkedIn's first million members (member number 532271 in fact!*). In any technology adoption lifecycle, there are the early adopters, those who help lead the way. That was you.

We hit a big milestone at LinkedIn this week when our 100 millionth member joined the site.

When we founded LinkedIn, our vision was to help the world's professionals be more successful and productive. Today, with your help, LinkedIn is changing the lives of millions of members by helping them connect with others, find jobs, get insights, start a business, and much more.

We are grateful for your support and look forward to helping you accomplish much more in the years to come. I hope that you are having a great year.

Sincerely,

Reid Hoffman Signature
